In this tender painting we share a moment with a mother cougar and her kittens nestled in the dappled shade of an old forest. As the mother gently washes one, the others patiently await their turns in this secluded hideaway of gnarled roots and soft pine needles. "I came across a quiet woodland spot like this on a research trip," the artist comments. "It was a place, my imagination told me, that was an ideal retreat for a shy, secretive animal like the cougar."
